blog design #1

With the new logo nearly finished (I’m still not 100% satisfied with the shapes in the logo) I started on the new look & feel of this blog. I thought it would be a good idea to publish the different stages in the designproces here. Kind of keep a record how the design evolves to a finished state.

So, yesterday as I was walking to the office I had an idea for the design I wanted to try out. I didn’t make a sketch in my sketchbook, instead I decided to immediatly work in Illustrator/Photoshop (mistake 1). After half an hour of messing around, I had to admit it was going nowhere very fast. So I threw everything in the trash & deleted it (mistake 2).

Later that day enlightnenment hit me, I quickly grabbed my sketchbook, jotted down some lines & the same evening I started with the design you can see here.

zrlnd design version 1

15 minutes worth of work. 5 for the sketch, 10 for this first try. You might say it doesn’t look like much, but I think this has potential.

As you can see, I didn’t start with the frontpage (if I have any say in the matter I never start with the homepage). I started with the page for the single post. By the end of the day I think I’ll be able to finish this.

  1. I like the result very much. It has something mysterious, naughty but seems mature and a very up-to-date look.
I very much like to read about your creative proces. It inspires me to learn from your experiences.
I’m looking forward to seeing it in the blog 😉

  2. Thanks for posting your creative proces – keep doing that! It’ll help me understand this blind spot in my vision called ‘design’.

I like the design. But I’m curious to see how it will fit in with the rest of the blog-structure (navigation etc.).
